R.I.P. The Real Oakley Hall
Thursday, May 22, 2008

We heard some very sad news last week that our friend and namesake Oakley Hall, the California novelist, passed away. He was 87.

What started for us as an interest in his name, turned into a genuine affection for his work, and ultimately to great respect and fondness for the man himself. We got the opportunity last September to share a stage with him in an event billed “Oakley Hall the Man & the Band,” met his wife and family, and were struck by his incredible energy and youthfulness. Although we felt somewhat that we had no right to share the night with a man who accomplished so much across decades, the evening was the highlight of our September tour and a night none of us will ever forget. We are so grateful we got to meet him.

He was always very supportive of us and our music, and couldn’t have been more gracious in sharing his name with us. He even confided that all his writer friends were jealous that he had a rock band named after him. We thank him sincerely for the loan.

Please read more about him here.

We wish his family the best at this sorrowful time.
