Fall tour begins tonight at the venerable Maxwell’s just across the Hudson. It’s a short trip for NYers, but there’s another show within proper city limits at the Bowery Ballroom at tour’s end on Sat. Oct 13. In between will be stops near your hometown. Rehearsals have been relentless, but rad new drummer Pat Wood – who somehow makes the Hall a taller, hairier band – has taken the workload in stride. Check out all dates and info here. Note, too, that among many amazing bands we’ll be meeting up with on the way – like Black Mountain, the Clientele, the 1900s, and Whalebones – Park the Van’s The Teeth will be playing the first four shows and Social Registry’s Christy and Emily have just been added to some of the last shows of the tour.
The new record I’ll Follow You will be available tonight at Maxwell’s and at all dates thereafter and officially comes out in stores on Sept. 11. You can also preorder and hear the whole thing streaming at the Merge website. Nashvillians also take note: I’ll Follow You will be available a day before official release at Grimey’s on Sept. 10. Buying the record there, gets you into that night’s show for free.
Spin.com has posted some clips from the McCarren Pool show with Superchunk this summer. Click here to see a slightly groggy interview and two songs from the show “Volume Rambler” – although listed there as “Lazy Susan” – and “Light of My Love.” Thanks to Spin and no offense intended to the realness of the very nice interviewer Steve Kandell. In other media news, former NPR stalward Bob Edwards will be having us on his great XM radio show on Thurs Sept. 6 for a story and interview that should air just after noon.
That’s about it for now. Come see us on the road. And please bring your eardrums, home-cooked food, and invitations to crash in your spare bedrooms…
